    Front Panel Jack Configurations

    The Owon XDM2041 features four front panel banana input jacks. Plugging probe leads into the wrong jack is the #1 cause of blown internal protection fuses.

    Measuring DC Voltage

    1. Turn on the XDM2041 power switch.
    2. Insert the Black probe into the COM jack.
    3. Insert the Red probe into the V / Ω / Cap jack.
    4. Press the ~=V button on the front panel so DCV appears on the main screen.
    5. Connect probe tips in parallel across the component or node you wish to measure.
    6. Read the exact voltage value on the digital display.

    Measuring DC Current (Series Connection)

    CRITICAL WARNING: Current measurements require connecting the meter in SERIES with the circuit path. Never place the multimeter probes across a voltage source or power supply rail while in current mode, as this will short the circuit and blow the internal DMM fuse!

      CORRECT (Series Current Connection):
      [ Power Supply (+) ] ---> [ DMM Red Lead ] === [ DMM Black Lead ] ---> [ Circuit Load ] ---> [ Power Supply (-) ]
    
    1. Power OFF the circuit under test.

    2. Plug the Black lead into COM.

    3. Plug the Red lead into:

      • 10A RMS Jack if expecting current $>500\text{ mA}$ (or if unknown).
      • mA / uA Jack if expecting current $<500\text{ mA}$.
    4. Press the ~=A button to enter current mode (DCA displayed).

    5. Break the circuit trace or wire path, and place the meter leads in series so all load current flows through the meter.

    6. Turn on circuit power and record the current reading.


    Resistance & Continuity Testing

    1. De-energize Circuit: Disconnect all power supplies from the breadboard before measuring resistance. Measuring resistance on a powered circuit produces false readings and can damage the meter.
    2. Insert Red lead into V / Ω / Cap and Black lead into COM.
    3. Press Ω to measure resistance value in Ohms ($\Omega$, $k\Omega$, $M\Omega$).
    4. Press the Continuity / Diode button to switch to audible continuity mode:
    • Touch the two probe tips together; the meter will emit a continuous beep, indicating a closed circuit ($<30\text{ }\Omega$).
    • Touch probe tips across a wire, trace, or switch to verify electrical continuity.

    Dual-Display Feature

    The XDM2041 allows displaying two measurement parameters simultaneously (for example, AC voltage magnitude and frequency).

    1. Set up a primary measurement (e.g., press ~=V to measure AC voltage).
    2. Press the Dual button on the front panel.
    3. Select a secondary measurement parameter (e.g., Hz / Frequency).
    4. The main display screen will show AC Voltage, while the secondary lower display will continuously show signal frequency.
